Every performance I have people come up to me and say, “I’ve always wanted to try flamenco.” or “I wish I could do that!” And often it’s followed by a version of “I’m too old/out of shape to try.” or “I’m not talented enough.” Which always breaks my heart. Flamenco is not about being any certain age or body type. It is an art, not a competition. There is plenty of room in the arts for you!

How Do I Get Over My Self-Doubts?
This is a hard one because everyone has stuff. If part of your stuff is that you don’t think you can do it, let me give you a few options to ease your worries:
- Observe a class. Most of the flamenco classes can be observed for a nominal fee for a limited number of visits. Send me an email if this interests you.
- You can schedule private lessons. If being in a class isn’t your thing, private lessons are easy to schedule.
- Come to an event where you can meet me and some of the students. We’re an awfully friendly bunch and we love to talk about flamenco. Keep watching your emails for the next event.
I’ve Taken Flamenco (or other dance) Classes in the Past and I Just Wasn’t Any Good At It
Here’s the deal. Learning dance is like learning a brand new language. A language where you might not even recognize the characters being used. Would you expect to be able to speak fluently after 3 months, 6 months, or a year of classes? Of course not! But will you make progress toward that goal if you keep up with it? ABSOLUTELY! I get how frustrating it can seem when your body doesn’t want to do what its told and it feels like everyone is getting it and you’re not. #1 EVERYONE has been where you are. #2 No one is judging you because they are focused on themselves. #3 The only failure is NOT TRYING!
